Soldier Receiving Communion Window
We often begin our walking tour with the Christ Church window called Soldier Receiving Communion This window memorializes former Christ Church choir boy Joseph John Kajack, a Paratrooper who gave his life on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day June 6, 1944. HIs face was painted from an actual photo of Joseph John Kajack. The window is full of symbolism, ancient and modern. Perhaps the most familiar are President Roosevelt’s The Four Freedoms: Freedom from Want, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, and Freedom from Fear. Other important symbols are the Bread and Wine of Communion, Symbols of sacrifice and Resurrection, a Paratrooper’s badge, a cornucopia of abundance and gratitude, and the symbols of the 3 largest religions: Christianity, Mohammedanism, and Judaism.
It is a modern style window designed and constructed by Arthur and Ethel B. Norris Studio of New Rochelle, New York and installed in the church in 1945 in Memory of John Jack Kajack, one of our own…

Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
