Mariam’s Leprosy Healed and David Returning to Jerusalem Windows

These two windows were created by Heaton, Butler & Bayne from London England in 1911.  They are given in memory of David and Ann Spader and Matthew Benson.

This two-lancet, two subject window is one of those approved by the vestry in 1911 to picture Old Testament events representing incidents in the life of Christ.  Mariam’s Leprosy Cleansed is an antitype for Mary washing the feet of our Lord; David’s Return to Jerusalem forecasts Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.  (The Windows of Christ Church by William E. Van Brunt, Jr.)

A prayer for renewal

You poor giraffe-like plants

Stretching out

Your necks

Toward the light

How you thirst for sun!

I know what it is like

I too am

Pulled

Away from darkness

Toward what’s bright.

Lord, do not let this yearning cease

Make me a resurrection plant

Soaking my roots

In your redeeming water

Turning you leaves

Toward your light

And sharing your rebirth
