Jesus and the Children Sculpture
This charming bronze statue of Jesus lovingly holding a baby and gently reaching down to touch a little girl reaching for him is displayed in the glass hallway garden adjacent to the entrance to the Parish Hall.
The sculpture was given in memory of Wirt Peebles Marks III by his family and friends. Wirt served as Senior Warden of Christ Church in the 1970s and continued to be an active member of Christ Church until his death in 1998.
The piece was created by renowned sculptor Mimi Sammis, whose work celebrates life with her passion for love and peace and is collected and displayed all over the world. A selection of her work is featured through July 11th at Sorokin Gallery on Greenwich Avenue, and a video featuring Ms. Sammis and her work may be seen by clicking HERE.
Emily Ragsdale
In the spirit of all that we feel we must teach our children, let us not forget to also be children of God and never stop learning…
Teach Us, Lord
Lord, teach us to see thee
Not just in stained glass but in stained lives;
Not in Gothic arches, but in arthritic fingers.
Lord, teach us to hear thee
Not just in hymns of praise, but in sneers of disdain.
Lord, let us know thee and love thee
In ALL things as thou lovest us–
For thou lovest
The self-seeking as well as the unselfish;
The vindictive as well as the kind,
The sinners as well as the saints.
Thou lovest even me, Lord.
